If you’re new to poker affiliate marketing, this should give you a good idea on exactly what being a poker affiliate is all about.

A poker affiliate is someone who partners with the online poker site to send new players to the room. Normally the affiliate refers these new players through a variety of different marketing channels. The most common method however that poker affiliates use to refer new players is via their own poker portals (websites). On these websites, poker affiliates will have a variety of content, of which may include poker site reviews, banners, news, blogs, and links to the online poker sites.

When you sign up for an individual poker affiliate program, you are given a special “affiliate link” that specifically identifies your referrals to the poker site. Embedded in every outgoing link that you display on your website to the various poker rooms is what is called an “affiliate link”.

So for example, let’s say that you were going to send traffic or player from your website to abcpoker.com; Instead of linking directly to www.abcpoker.com, you would link to an affiliate link, that may look similar to www.abcpoker.com/aff?87872. The numbers or special code at the end of the web address lets the online poker site know that you are the one who referred the new player.

In return for sending new depositing players, the online poker site will pay the affiliate (you) an agreed upon

commission each month. The commission plans at each poker affiliate program will vary, but are usually either a % of that players gross rake (MGR) or a one time referral payment (CPA). This will be discussed further in other university sections.

Alternatively, some poker affiliate programs will allow you to refer player with a simple “bonus code” that the player can use while signing up their players account. This will act the same as an “affiliate link”, and will also credit this player as your referral.

Every poker affiliate program has a private area where you the affiliate can login and check your statistics. Normally affiliate statistics are updated every 24-48 hours.

Being a poker affiliate is really no different than being a 100% commissioned sales person. In simple terms, you send new depositing players to the poker sites, and they in turn pay you a commission for each new player.
